EDC 340 - Copyright and Privacy

With the advancement of technology in schools, it is vital that educators instruct students about copyright and fair use. The website, Copyright & Creativity for Ethical Digital Citizens by C&C, provides free curriculum materials taught in elementary, middle, and high school. It teaches students the fair use concepts, protections, and limitations of copyright. The curriculum is divided into different age groups and includes specially designed lessons for each one. C&C’s curricula help guide the teachers in understanding how copyright affects their students. The lessons allow students to easily understand copyright, fair use, and creative commons while also holding students' interests. The pandemic has caused a greater emphasis on online learning, and this website would be able to accommodate that.  Another vital factor for the usage of technology is the protection of privacy and security for parents and students. There are federal regulations set in place to hel...

EDC 230 - Chapter 1

After reading the first chapter of, The Growth Mindset Playbook by Annie Brock and Heather Hundley, they discuss some of the fundamental factors necessary for a student's growth. This involves the introduction of the growth-mindset. The authors explain it by saying, “It means tackling challenges head-on, persevering through setbacks, and having an unwavering belief in your ability to succeed” (Brock and Hundley 16). These components enable a student to perceive life through a growth mindset. The teacher can affect this; their role is to display and teach a growth mindset for students. The student's achievement and motivation will increase when the teacher models a growth mindset. Teaching about a growth mindset will not make a difference if the teacher has a fixed mindset. The reading mentions that a teacher can display a fixed mindset by over-testing, ability grouping, and unnecessary intervention services.  The authors include an example in the book that shows the differe...

Understanding how to implement technology in an educational setting can be challenging, but the number of positive effects heavily outweigh the negatives. It can allow teachers to monitor student's progress easily. The article, A Powerful Model for Understanding Good Tech Integration , by Youki Terada, discusses that integrating technology in the classroom is about being aware of the wide range of options that can be incorporated into lessons. One of the obstacles that the author addresses is, “The big problem is how to integrate it: Beyond the sheer number of tech tools available, the same researchers identified ‘inadequate professional development and training’ as the primary obstacle to using technology productively in classrooms” (Terada). This means that the current technology available will remain an inadequate teaching tool if teachers do not know how to operate it. Another issue that teachers face is coronavirus; it has placed a greater emphasis on digital learning.  The ar...

Technology is one of the most instrumental factors for a child’s education. Going into special education, it is vital that my students receive as many accommodations suited to their individual needs. The article, Why Every Student Should Be In a 1:1 Classroom , by Kelly Walsh discusses some of the benefits of a one-to-one classroom. The author states, “1:1 technology allows teachers to differentiate both in terms of how they teach and how the students are expected to demonstrate their learning” (Walsh). This statement exemplifies that one-to-one gives the teacher a chance to accommodate each student. Before the advancements in technology, teachers were left to lecture the entire class. As a result, this made it difficult for students to learn at their own pace. This can affect the learning process because not every student can learn at the same pace. Some pick up on material quickly, while others process it more slowly. In the article, I read that 1:1 technolo...
